Remembering Jimmy Carter: Sharing His Legacy with Students in Georgia

At A Plus Tours, some of our most memorable trips have been to Plains, Georgia—the small town that shaped the life of former President Jimmy Carter. Over the years, we've taken countless students to visit his boyhood farm and hometown, giving them a chance to see where it all began. There's something special about standing in the same places that helped form the values and character of one of the most impactful leaders of our time. For many students, the most exciting part has been catching a glimpse of President Carter himself walking through town. Those unexpected moments brought history to life in a way few experiences can.

What makes these trips even more meaningful are the stories of the people who shaped President Carter's early years. His father, James Earl Carter Sr., was a farmer and businessman who worked closely with the African American community in Plains, and his mother, Lillian Gordy Carter, served as a nurse, breaking racial barriers with compassion and care. These family influences clearly instilled in him a deep sense of fairness and justice, values that guided his life and leadership. Sharing these stories with students reminds us all of how much impact one family and one small town can have on the world.

As we reflect on President Carter's remarkable life and legacy, we are reminded of how much he will be missed. At A Plus Tours, we're honored to continue bringing new generations of students to Plains, helping them connect with his story and the lessons he left behind. These trips aren't just about history—they're about understanding how one person's values and choices can create change. We're proud to play a small part in sharing that legacy with young minds and keeping it alive for years to come.
